Why Religious Freedom Is Under Attack?

I have returned to this week’s editorial in The Southern Cross, titled “Real Religious Freedom”, a few times since I read it the first time. I have been trying to put my finger on what it is about it that makes me feel uncomfortable.

Most of us are aware that last Sunday a US soldier walked off his military base in the Panjwai district of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan and began to cold-bloodedly shoot innocent Afghan civilians. When he eventually stopped, he had wounded 5 Afghans and killed 9 children, 3 women and 4 men.

On the 22nd of February 2012, Sr. Sue Rakoczy ranted, in her blog on The Southern Cross website, that the Pope had apparently made use of the term “Lord Cardinals” during the recent consistory. Sr. Sue stated that she found the Pope’s use of the term “Lord Cardinals” disturbing.

Bishops Restores Order Of Sacraments Of Initiation

As someone who was born into the Anglican Church I was accustomed to the Sacraments of Initiation being conferred in the following order: Baptism, followed by Confirmation and then First Holy Communion. When I converted to Catholicism, in 1987, I became aware that this order was different in the Catholic Church.

Lesbian Buddhist Demands Holy Communion

Ms. Barbara Johnson
I wrote recently about a lesbian woman, Ms Barbara Johnson, who was denied Holy Communion during the funeral Mass for her mother. The priest who did so was Fr Marcel Guarnizo. (You can find it here… Lesbian Denied Holy Communion)

Do We Accept The Cup Given Or Do We Exchange It?

The reality that doing the will of God is not always easy and comfortable, and that it may in fact include a great deal of hardship and suffering, seems to escape many people today. We live in an age where the tremendous accomplishments, of the human race, blind us into believing that there must surely always be an easier and less inconvenient route to the achievement of our objectives.

Who Said "Lord Cardinals"?

Sr. Sue Rakoczy
As Displayed On Her Blog Post

A blogger recently had a rant about how disturbed she was at the fact that the Pope made use of the term “Lord Cardinals” during the recent consistory. The blogger, sadly a Catholic nun, then went on to dispense advice on the Gospel reading that the Pope should have used and why it is that the Pope should not have used the term “Lord”.

It wasn't always the case that Msgr. Georg Ratzinger lived in the shadow of his younger brother, Joseph. Georg was an accomplished musician, who for over 30 years directed the Regensburger Domspatzchor, the world-famous boys choir of the Regensburg cathedral. Brother Joseph was a brilliant young professor, but mostly known in German academic circles.

Obama Votes For Infanticide?

It was recently raised as a matter of concern that Obama, while he was a senator in Illinois, voted in 2001, 2002 and in 2003, against the “Born Alive Infants Protection Act”. Newt Gingrich raised this during a debate on Ash Wednesday.

Why Should Baby Live?

Consider these two statements: “After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?” and “After-birth abortion (killing a new born) should be permissible in all cases where abortion is, including cases where the new born is not disabled.[i]

Lesbian Denied Holy Communion

Yesterday I read an article about a woman who is calling for a priest to be removed from his diocese because the priest had refused to give her Holy Communion. The priest apparently learned, directly from Ms Johnson, just before the funeral Mass for her mother began, that Ms Johnson was a lesbian who has been living with her lesbian partner for 19 years already and would continue to do so. You can read the secular media articles here and here.
