Truth About Contraception

A group of Ohio Nuns have produced a video on contraception.  I found it through the Blog of Fr. Ray Blake. Take a look...

What Heritage Day Lacks?

Today is a public holiday in South Africa.  It is “Heritage Day”, the day on which we South Africans celebrate the contributions that all South Africans have made towards building this beautiful country of ours.  I cannot however help feeling a little sad about the celebrations.

Bishops To Sue DSTV

I am not alone in my outrage at DSTVs clear discrimination against Catholics.  I wrote recently about how, in South Africa, DSTV has made various religious channels available through its satellite television network, but has refused to make available the Catholic channel, EWTN, despite numerous requests.

Glória in excélsis Deo

Take a look at these photos, sent to me by a friend.  Does one honestly not believe in God after one has taken the time to consider the beauty and diversity of these birds?  Is there anyone who still seriously doubts the existence of the Creator?  Does anyone seriously think that humans, or accidents, or whatever explanation scientists may present, are capable of creating all of this and so much more, without the influence of a master Designer? One does not need to be a scientist to draw ones own logical conclusions...

DSTV / EWTN: Letter To Multichoice CEO

Below is the letter that was addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Multichoice on 27 July 2012.  To date I have had no response of any kind whatsoever to this letter.  I had hoped that Multichoice would simply do the right thing and take the next logical step, which is to turn on EWTN for all.

DSTv Discriminates Openly Against Catholics

I wrote a letter to the CEO of DSTv recently and accused them of discriminating against South African Catholics.  I pointed out to them in my letter that the Muslims have their own TV channel, Rhema have their own TV channel, and other non-denominational churches have their own channel on DSTv.  Catholics in South Africa do not.

No Silver Or Gold, But Instead...

The great thing about having a personal Blog is that I can use it to express my personal thoughts.  I don’t necessarily have to go to the extent of doing research, getting sources, and the like.  My analytical personality, as a rule, does tend to lead me to naturally do some research and to provide sources in my Blog posts, to support the opinions that I express; but I don’t have to.

Cell Phones Prompt Prayer

First of all, every time you begin a good work, you must pray to Him most earnestly to bring it to perfection.[1]  There is no doubt that whatever we do, no matter how noble what it is that we are doing, it is imperfect if it is not done for the glory of God.

The Death Of Sex

Here is an interesting post from “Bad Catholic”, a Catholic Blog that I like to follow.  It is titled “Sustainable Sex” and offers an interesting perspective on sex and how, for many, “sex itself seems to be less and less fun.

Do We Keep Our Nose Out Of It?

Is it only me who sometimes wonders whether I should just keep my mouth shut about some of the unethical and immoral things that I witness in the world?  After all, at the end of the day, it has got nothing to do with me.  Its just between them and God; or is it?

What Do The Bishops Say?

I have for some time now been making noises that our South African Catholic newspaper should do more about giving its readers access to the homilies and messages of our bishops.  Not all of us are fortunate enough to attend Mass with them and to hear their message for ourselves.

Is The Church Out Of It?

The Church is not “out-of-it,” but actually right smack in the middle of it, and really way ahead of us, since she has her eyes on the eternal.  She is a seasoned, wise, loving mother, founded by the One who claimed to be “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”  She — the Church — hardly has to change her wisdom; we need to change our lives.  Forget “keeping up with the times” in faith and morals.  Rather, “keep up with the timeless!

Celibacy - A Light Hearted Examination

A young monk arrives at the monastery.  He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

Which Two Countries Do Not Sell Coca-Cola?

Some trivia…  Until very recently there were only three countries in the world that did not sell Coca-Cola.  However, that number has reduced.  Today there are now only two countries that do not sell Coca-Cola.  Which are they?

Injustice – What Are We To Do?

Picture From The DAILY MAVERICK
Protestants have always accused Catholics of not being sufficiently focused on sacred Scripture; that we place too much emphasis on other sources for our Faith, like sacred Tradition.  Yet, there are days, like today, when I wonder how many times the Old Testament books like Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Zephaniah, or, as is the case in this mornings first reading for Matins, Habakkuk, is ever read by the critics of Catholicism?

True Reverence For The Lord

The psalm from Matins for today left me with the urge to post it on my Blog, and why not?  So here it is:

The Big Picture

In reading the latest editorial in The Southern Cross, titled "Drinking and Driving", I couldn't help but consider the difference in approach that this editorial took, in comparison to the editorial about Bishop Cawcutt on 24 July 2004, titled “A dangerous precedent”.

Purpose Of Excommunication For Abortion

It is surely common knowledge that any Catholic who permits her unborn child to be aborted incurs a latae sententiae excommunication[1].  This means that the Church does not need to formally pronounce that the mother has been excommunicated for the abortion, it occurs automatically.

Vote Rigging In USA?

I don’t know about you, but I would want to crawl into a very deep and dark little hole, never to be seen in public again, if I had done what Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa did during the 2012 Democratic National Convention.  Apparently President Obama had insisted that the Democrats make changes to the Democrat party platform, so that it would include the words “God” and “Jerusalem”.  Brilliant, no harm in that proposal!

Warning Against The Intellectualization Of The Faith And Of Theology

Pope Benedict XVI, during a recent homily, has warned that our Faith is in danger of becoming “a game of the intellect”.  The English translation of the homily is available here: http://www.zenit.org/e-35468 or you can read it below.

Woolworths – Get Over It Already!

I have been somewhat bemused by the numerous calls to boycott Woolworths.  This call for a boycott comes amidst accusations that Woolworths apparently excludes whites from employment.

Better To Be Narrow Minded

I frequently face intense criticism for my refusal to read or watching anything that opposes or challenges the teaching of the Catholic Church.  In this regard I am often accused of being extremely narrow-minded.

Why Am I Punished For Original Sin?

I was asked recently why it is that God has punished us for the original sin, which was committed by Adam and Eve.  This person felt that it was unfair and inconceivable that a just God would choose to punish us, even though we did not personally commit the original sin.
