Prelate of Opus Dei Visits South African Parish

Bishop Javier Echevarría (Right) and Fr Thomas Gibson

In 2006, Archbishop Buti Tlhagale of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg entrusted the pastoral care of the Mater Dolorosa Parish in Kensington South, Johannesburg, South Africa, to the Opus Dei Prelature. Today the parish was blessed with a visit from the Prelate of Opus Dei, Bishop Javier Echevarría.

Bishop Echevarría prayed the Rosary with members of the parish before taking the time to meet with each and every parishioner who had come to greet him.

Photo’s of this historic visit are available on the Facebook Page of the Mater Dolorosa Parish or by following this link.

The Mater Dolorosa Parish has wholeheartedly embraced the aims of Opus Dei, which are purely spiritual and can be summarised as helping ordinary Christians to find God in their daily lives by turning their work and daily activities into occasions for growing in union with God, for serving others, and for improving society.

Here you will find a brief history of the work of Opus Dei in South Africa.
