An attempt to implement a law, known as the Prenatal
Nondiscrimination Act, which was intended to bring
an end to aborting a child because of the child’s gender, was defeated and will
therefore not be implemented. Surprisingly this law failed to be accepted into
law, not in China or India, which is the countries I would have bet on if I
were a betting man, but in the United States of America.
This is particular hard to believe when one
considers that it was in fact the USA who, in 2007, led the way to a resolution,
by the UN, which condemned sex selection abortion.[i] Despite
this, the USA itself today still refuses to pass any laws that make sex
selection abortion illegal in the USA. Clearly a case of “do as I tell you, not
as I do.”
The result of the vote, for the
implementation of the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, was 246 votes for the Act and 168 votes against the Act.[ii]
In order to be implemented the Act needed a two third majority. It missed
implementation by just 30 votes. (7% of the available votes.) I suppose we
should take hope in the fact that with such a small margin it may before long be
possible to see the USA implement this legislation
I must say that I find it incredibly
difficult to believe that any civilised person today would not want to end this
horrifically unjust behaviour. If the USA will not lead by example, what are we
to expect from other countries?
What is also interesting is that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America
actually saw fit to send a threatening email to House
members, before the actual vote, stating that Planned Parenthood would consider
a vote for the Act as a vote against women’s health.[iii]
This is of course just absurd! It is common knowledge that it is predominantly the
female babies, throughout the world, who are subjected to sex selection
abortion. A 2005 study estimated that approximately 90 million females are
‘missing’ from the population in a handful of countries and that this was largely
a consequence of sex selection abortions.[iv]
So, if anything, this Prenatal
Nondiscrimination Act would protect female babies and
end gendercide.
It appears that the highly lucrative
business of abortion is blinding Planned
Parenthood to the truth. What is particular amusing is that the Planned
Parenthood Federation of America is apparently a non-profit organization. Do
you really believe this? Planned Parenthood states its revenue as $1.05 billion
in 2010.[v]
In 2009, Planned
Parenthood performed 332,278 abortions in the USA.[vi]
That is nearly one abortion for every minute of every single day of the year! Effectively,
in the 2 or 3 minutes you have taken to read this post, Planned Parenthood has
just killed 2 to 3 babies!
It is however not only
in the USA and other countries that these horrors are taking place! If you live
in South Africa, how informed are you about abortion in our country? South
African legislation permits abortion[vii]
in certain instances. This, even though it is estimated that up to 70% of South
Africans do not agree with abortion, except in special circumstances, and 56%
of South Africans believe abortion is always wrong.[viii]
So, why is abortion
legal in South Africa when clearly the majority of South African’s do not
approve of it? More importantly, what are we doing to correct this?
